Goodyear awards CREATE grants to Mosca and Cory
On 26 June, the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology, announced the winners of NSERC CREATE projects at an event at the Institute for Quantum Computing. Among the award winners are IQC researchers, Michele Mosca and David Cory, who each received $1.65 million towards the launch of a training and mentorship programs for young Canadian scientists.
Michele Mosca's award will support the CryptoWorks21 program, more formally known as the NSERC CREATE Training Program in Building a Workforce for the Cryptographic Infrastructure of the 21st Century, in developing new cryptographic tools that will be secure against quantum threats. “This CREATE program will give the next generation of mathematicians, scientists and engineers unprecedented training and opportunities in this fast-changing field. The goal is to better prepare our students to make a positive difference in the workforce after they complete their [CryptoWorks21] training,” said Mosca, key organizer of CryptoWorks21 and IQC deputy director and co-founder.
