Intellectual Property (IP) is a novel idea that is owned by the person or persons who created the idea. This is a “hands-on” workshop focused on technology IP. It builds on a basis of relevance both in the academic and commercial context. It also places technology IP in context of other forms of IP. The workshop is divided up into “learning” units followed by “doing” units so that there is an experiential component closely linked with the academic.
The goal of this workshop is to teach Quantum and Crypto students about IP and specifically about patents. This workshop will give students skills such as how to use patent databases as a supplement to literature searches, allowing students to understand IP from a scientific level. This workshop will help set up the students to identify gaps in their research, understand how to take their research and leverage it into valuable IP that can be used in commercialization. This workshop will prepare for and lead into the entrepreneurship workshop that follows.
